Great Quote
“Unshared good fortune leaves life empty.”
In the small city that I live we have some wonderful things happening. We have just recently gone through a major renovation of a run-down area of town. We have a performing arts center that is second to none, including large cities.
Having said that, we still have some problems. The major problem I see is that we have a serious vacuum present when it comes to leadership. Our city has a population of around 30,000. Even with that small size, we have a mayor, city manager(who actually runs the city) and a city commission. The mayor and commission are electable positions, city manager is not.
The city manager appears to be the one who works, and the mayor is the figurehead. The city commissioners all have other jobs in the private sector.
In this morning’s newspaper, it was announced that a decision on an issue that has been discussed for a couple of years now will probably not be made until the new commission takes office early next year.
COWARDS!!!!
I’m not even gonna discuss the issue in this post, and it doesn’t matter where I stand on it at this time. What does matter is that we have a city commission, elected by the people, to represent the people that can’t or won’t make a decision.
One of the commissioners abstained from voting because he fears losing his job if he votes. This leaves 3 others and the mayor to vote. In my opinion, they are intentionally coming to an impasse because they don’t have the stones to take a stand.
So, what to do?
Replace every one of them, maybe even eliminate the mayor position completely, and send a message to the next city commission to do something!
UPDATE 9/27/2006
I am compelled to add some new information to this post to be fair to everyone involved. Last night our city commission did actually vote on the above issue and pass the measure (even if it won’t take effect until April 1, 2007), but they passed it. So, I have to give them a little credit for not passing this off on someone else. Good job guys, thanks for finally stepping up and making a decision!
My oldest son asked me what I was going to blog about on my new site. I told him that I wasn’t sure, but that sometimes I would probably rant about things that drive me crazy! My daughter does that occasionally and I sense that it is quite cleansing.
So, here goes.
Brad Pitt was quoted everywhere in the press today as saying this;
“Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able,”
I’m not totally sure what that means, but can come up with several scenarios.
Brad is a pretty good actor. I enjoy most of his movies. But why does he think for one second that anyone cares about his beliefs? I’m sure that Congress and the President are having a roundtable discussion right now to figure out how to fix this so that Brangelina can get married!!
Hey Brad! Don’t quit your day job, buddy.
Ok, just got this page…Don’t have a clue what I’m doing.
Maybe there will be something interesting on here soon.
